the cave

Seguimos pintando exactamente lo mismo que la gente de las pinturas rupestres. Nuestras obsesiones siguen siendo las mismas, la vida cotidiana, la supervivencia, la comida. Al igual que la gran mayorí­a de artistas contemporáneos, vivo de mis alumnos. Son mi vida cotidiana. Por esta razón, esta vez me decido a pintar a mis alumnos. Los pinto de mi color fetiche y los superpongo en un fondo del mismo color. El espacio expositivo es mi cueva al modo de los pintores rupestres, para los que las cuevas tení­an una función muy parecida a nuestras galerí­as y museos . De igual forma que yo misma en mi academia de pintura o en la sala de exposiciones, en estas cuevas no vivían, sino que iban a hacer estos dibujos, representar sus piezas de caza y pasar un buen rato.

La obra puede instalarse de dos modos: En una versión más modesta, se pintará una pared de color rosa (pantone honey suckle 18-2120) y se colgarán (sin marco) las fotos de caras pintadas de los alumnos. En otra versión, si se dispone de una sala entera para la instalación, se forrarán las paredes con papel de color rosa arrugado a modo de escenografía que imite las paredes de una cueva. Las imágenes se colgarán sin marco y los visitantes accederán a la sala provistos de unas linternas de espeleólogo para ver la exposición que no estará iluminada de otro modo.

The Cave

 

We keep on painting exactly the same as those people who once drew cave paintings. Our obsessions are the same, daily life, survival, food. Like the great part of contemporary artists, I live from my students. They are my daily life. For this reason, this time I have decided to paint my students. I paint them according to my color fetish and superimpose the painted subjects onto a background of the same color. The exhibition space becomes my «cave», just like the cave artists used their caves in ways similar to our museums and galleries so that,  in the same way as I now use my academy or exhibiting space,  their cave painters’ caves weren’t living spaces, but were just visiting places for creative purposes and to have a good time.

 

The work can be installed in two ways: In a more modest installation, a wall will be painted pink (Pantone 18-2120 honey suckle) incorporating hanging photos of the painted faces of the students (no frame). 

 

In the «cave» version, an entire room is used for the installation in which the walls and surfaces are covered with pink paper crumpled  for a scenery mode that mimics the interior of a cave. The  photo images will then be hung unframed.   Visitors access the room provided with a caver’s flashlight as the only light source with which to observe and explore the exhibition.
